Rambles

Las Ramblas is the heartbeat of Barcelona: a long tree-lined pedestrianised road from Plaça Catalunya to Port Vell’s cruise terminals. Las Rambles is constantly buzzing with tourists and locals. Human statues, flower shops, street performers, artists, fortune-tellers and comical acts feature along its thoroughfare. This road intersects two of the more prominent old town areas, Raval and Barri Gotic.

Interesting focal points:

Canaletas Fountain

Located at the top of Las Ramblas, bordering Plaça Catalunya, it’s believed that if you drink its water you will return to the city. This is the where FC Barcelona’s celebrations traditionally take place.

Betlem Church

One of the few churches in Barcelona to be built in Baroque style, Betlem was created in the 18th century. The interior was destroyed by a fire at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

Joan Miró Mural

Miró is one of the most universally known Catalan painters and sculptors and this renowned mural located on the floor of Las Ramblas is located near the Boqueria Market. The mural was created in 1977.

Gran Teatre del Liceu

Opened in 1847, this palace has played host to some of the greatest names in opera. It’s also been the target of various unpleasant moments in history and been victim to anarchist terror attacks and fires.
